BAND STORY, WRITTEN BY CLIVE OSBORNE.
I moved to Sweden in 1996 the Surfin' Gorillas were formed on the 1st August 1976 only because a bar in Stockholm needed a band. It was there anniversary and had been had been let down at the last minute. A phone call was made to Steve Whitton who then contacted Me,Alf and Per on the day of the gig we were all free so we met at the bar . We had never played together before so arranged a set list of songs we knew. The gig went well and I was asked what we were called I was holding a can of Gorilla beer in my hand the name Surfin' Gorillas spung to mind. After this gig we decided to continue playing together and proceeded to play many gigs. After a while Alf had to leave due to other commitments so Marie took his place. We then did a porta studio recording of the Surfin Gorilla instro which I sent to Dell of Fury Records they wanted the track so we went to Laceland studios to re- record it. Early in 1997 we went back to the studios and recorded seven more tracks. In june Felix came to stay with Steve from Germany he ran Witchcraft records after hearing the recordings he agreed to make an vinal EP. On sunday the 22nd March we went back to the studios and recorded a further nine tracks. I contacted Part records in Germany and we agreed to a deal and The New Adventures of the Surfin' Gorillas CD was released in 1998.
After returning from Sweden late 1999 I continued to play with various bands like Jack & The Rippers, Big Boy Bloater and also Lord Sutch. When I moved to East Sussex I began playing with The River Boys. Myself and Guy left The River Boys formed a new line-up of The Surfin’ Gorillas.
There were a few changes in the line up but the band is still going strong and hope to record a new album very soon Clive
